Wow, I'm surprised how entertaining that was. Some really interesting maneuvers and strategies. You should definitely continue on to Ages with the password to reach the true ending.

Perhaps a two-player TAS is necessary then... would that work?

Perhaps most people haven't played it, but this game was a whole lot of fun and I think that a TAS like this as well as one of the Boo races would really show off what made this game unique.

It doesn't go to the credits.
If the process were real (i.e. glitch the menus to get a file with 120 stars), it could be used to beat the current 0 star TAS. Assuming all keys were also opened (a reasonable assumption given that this is a hypothetical situation anyway), the player could simply run up to the final Bowser fight and beat him to see the credits.

Question: Is this video of getting 120 stars in Mario 64 (European version?) real? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ro53MEsvzwo If it is, using the logic discussed to accept this Super Mario World run, why would this method not be usable to create a 2 minute, 0 star TAS?

3. That's because shooting a fireball requires pressing "B" for 1 frame; that counts as "running" for 1 frame, which defeats the purpose of the goal.
Why not just stop moving while firing?

A run combining the changes of a new character, a new goal (All dragon coins/100%), and an new 'updated' version of the game offers enough variation to the vanilla SMW SNES runs to be worth doing In my mind.
I completely agree, and would love to see said run.

Well done. Nice change for pace. I played through this game when it first came out. I definitely prefer the N64 version, but you did well with this version. Curious question. Is it possible to beat the game with just Yoshi? I'm just curious what would happen in the ending. It already is a bit odd that Princess says "thank you all" to Mario and Yoshi :)

I enrolled in an accelerated Master's in Engineering program and lost nearly all of my free time. But I have made some progress.

lol the 16:9 + cinema is insane, here's a comparison of all the different aspect ratios: http://i.imgur.com/Vk0oo.jpg
Before I forget, nfq, your cinema + 16:9 image is not quite stretched proportionally to the others (it should be slightly wider). With regard to video editing. Honestly, it's not a giant effort... I may do an example (it helps that I have Adobe Premiere).

Wyster, with basic video editing software, what you're describing is definitely possible. I, for one, would love to see the run in cinema + 16:9 as the field of view is surprisingly wide. Are you interested in trying Dam with these settings or would that kill your motivation? I'm not sure how much effort goes into each level...

Interestingly, you can get an even wider field of view by combining Cinema screen mode with 16:9 ratio...

Nahoc, I'd check the video again if I were you. The field of view is definitely broadened. The amount of screen real estate is smaller, yes, but that doesn't mean you can't see more. Perhaps the encoder could crop the black borders out of the video during levels after cinema is chosen...

Very interesting on this... obviously slowdown is not as bad (and thus lookdown not as effective) on the emulator.

Having never played this hack, I'm now very interested to give it a try. This looked well played. I'd prefer an all-stars completion but this was interesting. Yes vote.

What he meant is: "Would it be possible to reach the pillar sooner by not longjumping. That way you could pound the pillar faster, even if you're not on the far side of it." Answer is: highly doubtful. I will ask the Japanese player, though.
Nahoc, your interpretation is correct and thank you for looking into it.

At 13:17 in that 120 star WIP, could they have ground pounded the pillar earlier? Since you have to wait for the water anyway, there is no reason to hit it on the far side.

Mickey's Speedway USA for GBC is also a completely different game from the N64 version and is a fantastic game. I'm not sure it would be a good TAS, but it is worth playing. Especially the trailer mini-games (which may make a good TAS since they do not have laps).

It's great to see you begin this TAS :) I have a couple (possibly ignorant) questions: 1. Why did you roll so infrequently? Is it not as beneficial as the DKC games? 2. Would switching to Diddy be faster?
