I forgot to edit certain aspects of the submission. I'll do that when I get home, whoops.

Questions I had before this submission. (Have not read submission text) 1. Palace Skip, the first battle, why is it necessary? Can you not bring an item and throw it? I guess you cannot throw items in this game? 2. Shadow Queest phase 1 raises her DEF. Is that scripted or why did you not manipulate it to not happen?
It's scripted unfortunately

With all these new discoveries, I'm curious. How fast would a 100% be with everything known used so far? :o Also congrats on finishing it! I'm surprised you managed to do this over and over. 0_o
I have no idea. Maybe around 7 hours

I verified that Palace Skip is real on stream by performing a Double Jump underneath the floor from already accessible out of bounds using a recent glitch. https://www.twitch.tv/tasmalleo/v/58339340 I'll have a detailed video on this in a few days, sorry for the wait. This is only possible on the Japanese version of the game due to the way that the game spawns your partner. I'll explain in the video in the next few days.

Forgot to post here, sorry! Yes, we are very close. We are now out of bounds. The only thing stopping us is the fact that we haven't found a way to reach the loading zone below that would allow us to get the key and enter Grodus's lair. We're still thinking and I am 75% sure we will be able to perform palace skip with this glitch.

The TTYD community has long wanted Palace Skip and Pole Skip. Either one of these tricks would save a ton of time, though Palace Skip would save a bit more. Palace Skip is theoretically possible because underneath the room before Gloomtail, the loading zone for the room with the key to Grodus's lair is actually loaded, even though the rest of the room isn't loaded. This can be used to skip not only the Riddle Tower, but (in the best case scenario) also the pole room. Because we skip the pole room, we don't need Ultra Boots. Because we don't need Ultra Boots, we don't need to go to Chapter 6. Because we don't go to Chapter 6 we don't need Vivian for the Excess Express. Because we don't need Vivian, we don't need to complete Chapter 4. Because we don't need to complete Chapter 4, we don't need tube mode. See the point? This would skip a lot of stuff, approximately 1hr 30 mins in savings. The route would be Prologue, CH1, CH2 up until Super Boots (for Teleporter Room Early), CH7, CH8. But, we don't know if it is possible to skip the Palace without Ultra Boots. Say Ultra Boots is required to perform the skip, and we would only save approximately 30mins. Say it requires Vivian, and we would save about 1hr. We're not quite sure what the conditions of this trick would be, but either way it's a huge timesave. Alternatively, Pole Skip is theoretically a way to skip just the pole room in Chapter 8, which is the last room that requires Ultra Boots. If this was able to be skipped, we wouldn't have to go to Chapters 4 nor 6 for the same reasons as Palace Skip. This would save 30mins. We were wondering if any more people would be interested in glitch hunting for these tricks that is on these forums because of how tough this glitch is to find. Let me know if you'd be able to help. It's appreciated a ton.

In the breaker room where you talk about boos cackling, could you have sucked up the table cloth immediately after sucking up the boo to save some time on dialogue or something? Or am I not understanding that trick quite right?
It would take too much time to set it up because it takes a long time to suck off the cloth. If I start pulling off the cloth, it's hard to continue sucking up the boo while R pumping because the vacuum current latches to the cloth.

What the hell is wrong with people saying starting from dirty SRAM is acceptable? Have you all gone stupid? Everything on this site starts from clean SRAM (except for NG+ and such) and I’m sure 99% of those movies are only more boring, often with just unskippable story cutscenes added because of it (hello Mega Man ZX). So what? That’s the fucking policy that’s always been used. What the fuck is everyone saying?
I made this for the LM community, so it's up to this site to determine whether or not that's acceptable.

Oh. Can you enter a battle during a hyper jump? If you can, then get into a battle at the top of a hyper jump then jump again to skip 2 goombas.
No because you are in a state of using an item when doing the jump.

Pausing while jumping can allow for a Hyper Jump. If you use an item when the game registers Mario on the ground, Mario will shoot up in the air 60 units high, which is higher than a regular jump.
I got some ideas for this: 1. Can it be used for that spike room in the last chapter? Or will you still be invincible during the "use item" animation? 2. Can you move using this glitch? Or only go straight up? 3. Can this be combined with that double jump to skip 2 Riverside Goombas?
You can't move while the jump occurs, so it's of no use at the moment.

That's a cool trick. Any chance you could update the Game Resources page with this and all the other new tricks? Or if you wanted to send me the known information about all of them, I could format them for the page for you.
We created a Google Doc of all the tricks we know of in the game. If you're willing to add in all this info to the Game Resource page, go for it. Seems like too much work to transfer it all over for me right now, sorry :(

Great job, Malleo. I had forgotten what the differences were between this run and the last submission, and I enjoyed finding out what changed in this one myself. One question: What happened at 53:50 and 53:53? After Punio discovers the other Punies, you open the menu and quickly scroll through options twice. Is this for luck manipulation, presumably for the 100-Jabbi Fight?
That was Item Stacking. If you open the menu, then sort, unpause and sort on the same frame, reopen the pause menu, use an item and sort again, the game tries to remove the item from your inventory, but because you sorted it and it's not in the same slot position, the game ignores it and you keep the item.

In my 3:35 (submitted, but cancelled), I made an audio commentary so that people could understand everything that happened. Considering the only notable trick that is different is Bobbery Early, I didn't want to put together an entire new encode.

I forget the specifics, but it turns out that Kirigami64 was looking at the wrong part of the game's code, so the value shown wasn't correct. It is actually a 0% chance.

Paper Mario TTYD is done yet again. Encoding once I get my video card back from an RMA. It will be submitted some time late September/October.

I'm going to work on this as a side project to Luigi's Mansion. Progress will be slow most likely. I have to redo it from the beginning because I have too many fright masks now since I skip an ember fight. Might also be able to use FO duping somewhere in the route!

Thanks for the help. That makes sense now! I was using 4.0.2 and I will continue to do so from here on out. I'll be doing any% no oob (japanese) just to clarify.

I would still like this published. I'm going to focus on Luigi's Mansion. There are a few other skips that are close to happening, so I feel it would be best to wait it out a little bit.

Wow...Unfortunately a 13 minute timesaver was found just now. It lets you grab Bobbery "Early." Quotes because you actually get him after Chapter 6 now. You can fall oob and trigger the ember fight that occurs right before Bobbery falls out from the tree. You can trigger this after Chapter 6. This way, you skip all of pre-Chapter 5 since you can instantly go to Chapter 6. The Grotto will also be slightly faster since the pathways will be open and the ghost spirit will not be talking to you.
