I had never played or watched this game until this run. All I can say is Holy borrowed music from Batman and borrowed sound effects from Blaster Master! Way to recycle, Sunsoft.
Anyway, the game was entertaining. The only possible mistake I could spot was on the third boss (and possibly others), your last shot was fired far away from the boss. It may save a little time to fire the last shot up close, so the traveling time of the bullet / missle is minimized. But, as I've said, I haven't played this game myself, so I may very well be wrong here. Nevertheless, the run is still good, good enough to be published, I feel.
You and me both. *Cough*

Ok, the first level and bonus level can be found here. Thanks to DeHackEd for the upload script.
It is not optimized to perfection at this point - for example, I could have chosen to take hits at different spots in the first level to speed things up a bit.
To be honest, I didn't have much fun watching it after I was done. The bonus level, which I was looking forward to seeing, ended up not being as impressive as I would have hoped. Therefore, I don't see myself continuing this run, but I wanted to see what everyone else thought of it before I officially decide to quit.

D'oh! I didn't mention that this would be on hard difficulty.
I tried lots of left+right to try and find some kind of acceleration glitch, but to no avail.
In Hard mode? Yeah each hit is only one damage point. As far as slowing down to kill enemies, I would think it could mostly be avoided from being able to shoot in all eight directions.

Watching Gorash's demo made me realize that normal difficulty is going to be boring, unfortunately. I am going to have some free time quite soon so I'm probably going to do the first level and first bonus stage, then upload the WIP to see what people think and if the game is worth continuing.
I'm still not sure if I'll be going for entire 100%, because some strategy and overall speed will be lost. I could skip 5% on six levels and 10% on five levels if I wasn't going for 100%, but that would require the huge optimization of which levels to get 95% on instead of 90% in order to enter the bonus level.

I haven't actually watched the run yet, but I personally think that having runs of the same game on different platforms is not a problem. The differences may be subtle, but there are people who have only played the SNES version, and so they would be most entertained by that video over the other platforms. The subtle differences in the game engine, for example, may confuse some who aren't familiar with the version.
Plus, doesn't one of the existing Prince of Persia runs have some huge wall-jumping-through-glitch? Maybe this is PoP2.
Anyway, I will get to watching this when I get back home in a few days.

The basic idea is that pushing through a ceiling will place you in a different world, but without taking the elevator, the game doesn't change the sprites and colors. For example, the well-known secret world in Ridley's lair takes you back up through parts of Norfair, I believe, just with the wrong sprite dump in memory.

This explains it much better.

To me, this was good but not great. That being said, I don't know if a "great" run would be possible. One big problem about going so fast in this game is that the scrolling is not smooth enough for the speed and I started getting a headache from it.
Fast, yes, but entertaining, no, for me. (Yes + No) / 2 = Meh.

Also, I got the hex-editing to work. Trying to upload it somewhere now with no success...but you may want to get that run and finish the last level from it.
Edit: Emailed the hex-edited run to you.

Hahaha man that is goofy. Ok then despite the name screen I am still voting yes because six seconds is a good improvement. Perhaps it's possible to do the name screen and then hex-edit the rest of the run to 32 frames earlier...but depending on how the game works, desyncs are a possibility.

Hmm...
Have you watched the Genesis version? Granted, I don't know how similar they are, but there are a few tricks in that run that I would guess could be done on the NES version, but again, I'm not sure.
However, the name screen can be done faster...left on one frame, up on the next, A on the third, instead of going down from G to End. This I did get to work myself.
On the plus side, one less Famtasia movie.
I'll wait for a reply before voting here.
Edit: Falling is definitely different in the NES version, as far as I can tell. I'll still wait for a reply, to be sure.

The phrase in bold is my response to your extreme example, which I understood, but didn't agree with. I don't feel I'm defending a "thief", and not agreeing with your ideas certainly doesn't make me "need a clue". There is no universal correct way, and the comments you are saying make me think that you are yet another person on here that thinks of their ideals and opinions as fact.
YES I WOULD, and so would many others who voted by the guidelines we are supposed to vote by, as opposed to considering authors. And whether or not you agree with this, or you think I've made an informed decision or not, it's still my vote, and all your extreme examples and complaining aren't going to change the way I feel. I say it should be a compliment to your run when Phil, of all people, can only find this small of an improvement. But I think it's a shame you are reacting to it like this.

You have no right determining who has the right to vote and who doesn't based on whether or not they agree with your opinion.
If having a run obsoleted in this way gets you this annoyed, then don't submit anymore. Problem solved. Competition in this way is inherently part of making a TAS, whether you think it should be or not.
Warning - the rest of this post is my opinion, which you may or may not agree with
If you truly want the kind of recognition you seem to be striving for, you should continue doing non-assisted speedruns instead of these. But be warned, if someone watches your run, rips-off your tactics, and makes a better movie, it's STILL PERFECTLY ALLOWED and all the complaining in the world won't make your slower run better, simply because you originated some of the ideas.
And as far as TASs go, I could not care less who made what movie. I don't watch the movies here with the author in mind. Sorry, but I don't. Whether Sleepz, Phil, or anyone else took the time to put together a TAS, because anyone can tell an emulator what buttons to press on what frames, it still looks just as impressive to me.

Hahaha, good point. Yeah, having it in Japanese took me a while to figure out basic controls and concepts. But I'm not sure if such a movie would be published. Maybe a couple years ago, when a lot of crappier movies made it through, but I don't know now.
It is fun to play! I still haven't beat 1-8 though, but I have beat enough levels to get to worlds 4, 5 and 6. Maybe we should post this in the "rare gem games" topic or whatever it is.

Supreme Court style, just sidestep this whole debate. I personally would say to let the votes decide it, just like any other submission here.
I'm not sure if I apply to this...sorry if anything I said offended you, but I'm not sorry for posting it. I felt very insulted, and I will stand behind everything I say on these forums.

Well I finally got around to watching the movies side-by-side. First of all, Phil's is faster (obviously), but I have to say that, speed aside, some parts were more entertaining in Sleepz's (end of 4-1), and some were more entertaining in Phil's (end of 7-1). This is my opinion. Overall, both were equally entertaining, just in different specifics.
And I don't mind the wobbling. I mind more slower playing.
Thus, in accordance with the guidelines, which is what we should be voting by, I am voting yes for this movie.

I tried it back when this was first posted, and it was fun, but I could not figure out much about the game. I am stuck at the level with three blocks and no colors (1-8 I believe).
It is an interesting concept, but I don't know how good of a time attack it could make. Maybe there is more about the game I don't know. I do like the "Nice Clear!" at the end of each level, though.

This actually is the last thing I want. This movie has the best chance in his hands, I believe.
No, although he did respond to a post I made in the DKC Competition run forum, so he is still around (yay!). Hopefully we'll hear from him soon.

Sleepz's didn't knowingly sacrifice this half-second, nor is it that Phil's improvement knowingly sacrified entertainment. It just ended up that way.
But, this brings up a good point. What would happen if these runs were submitted in the opposite order? I mean, say Phil's improvement here was submitted before Sleepz's run that is currently published. How many people would vote it to obsolete the run that it is slower than? None, because the guidelines also say:
Although this doesn't logically imply that beating a record will automatically make the movie published, it is interesting to look at it from this different perspective.

The bolded portions show that I wasn't trying to validate my opinion as fact.
Yeah, this topic has nothing to do with 36 frames, except that it's been discussed several times within.
Everyone? Who's assuming their opinion is fact now?
Another of your opinions taken as fact. Tell me, why are your opinions fact, and mine make me a noob? Because you have more mindless one-word posts than I do? Ridiculous.
Again what? My opinion doesn't count because you don't agree with it?
Perfection to me (note the opinion) is completing the game as fast as possible, while keeping the video as entertaining as possible without losing speed. Check the guidelines:
Gosh, I sure do know a lot about this site for being a noob.
Also on the WhyAndHow page:
Who can spot the error? Phil. But apparently that doesn't matter now, because we only need to follow our own guidelines when our opinions agree with them. And only the opinions of people like Vatchern, because other opinions don't count, because we are "noobs".
So in the future, please don't waste your own time with one word posts aimed to insult me.

Yeah but he's good at figuring out what we are saying, and vice versa.
Hell, if I had any Super Metroid skills, I'd pick up this run. I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, this is far from the case.
