This is a rather specific idea of how to catch Mew: http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/rbcatchmew.html There are other places to catch Mew (or any other Pokemon). Which Pokemon it is depends on the special of the last Pokemon you fight.

Were you referring to the first time the player controls Zero? I wasn't able to reproduce it, but maybe try the following: WIP1 timing on, lr+ud off, volume height off, fake mute off, sync samples on, 22KHz sound. Also tell us which emulator you used. nitsuja's improvement 7/9 or the official 1.43 Final/WIP1?

Sorry for not making it clear, but the Chance repair would force CPU to mortgage both second street property and lose hotels. I also forgot to mention mortgaging Oriental and Connecticut before trading, since it seems faster than raising the trade money.

My strategy (which I sent to Acmlm and I think he received), was quite different. The CPU and I take light blue properties: H: 2+4 Oriental C: 2+6 Vermont H: 1+2 Connecticut However, the trading is very different. Instead of trading as much as possible from the CPU, I give him a monopoly for $201. Why not max $? First, it's faster that way :) Second, a little trick I remember is that a player can have 4 houses each on a first street monopoly and nothing else, hit Community Chest repairs, and go bankrupt. Thus, I let the CPU build its houses and hotels. The CPU buys a second street property, then hits Chance repairs, losing its hotels, then hits Comm. Chest repairs, done. By the way, this doesn't work on all CPU characters since some go into trade mode almost instantly after buying Vermont. And that's three rolls to manipulate. I never realized though that CPU Ollie gives up all money for a monopoly, though.

Good job, primo. I never thought Pokemon Red could be done so fast. Voted Yes.

I don't think that would be accepted. That's like forcing the CPU to give away all its money, rather than seeing how stupid/unlucky the CPU actually is on its own power. In that regard, Start+Select is almost like a code. On the other hand, I worked out a possible strategy that could bring Monopoly down to 25 seconds. I was inspired by hero's "CPU bankrupt by trading" movie and created a strategy that only trades once, then, after movie end, watches the CPU self-destruct in the next 75 seconds (hint!). It's definitely not what one would think, though (unless you are reading my mind). The only problem (not to a simulator, of course) is that the CPU's last move must be manipulated for 3 rolls. Acmlm, I sent you a PM regarding the strategy. Obviously, I can't do it myself.

That would only be recommended if it really was near-impossible to pull something off, such as 1/10000 luck manipulation or something, or if no one could beat the game with no items even when tool-assisted. But generally strategies are not near-impossible to pull off with tool-assistance, so it wouldn't hurt to demonstrate a game normally. Impressive would be taking no damage in a game that seems difficult to go through without damage, rather than using an infinite health cheat.

Why must you not fit all the game names in one topic? One topic saying "Games beaten using cheats" would be enough. Even then, I don't think it's worth it, considering the lack of response. You might as well have posted all this in the original thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3506 Edit: Oops... minor edit. :)

If the game doesn't explode, don't even try using cheats. The fact that cheats are used in a run almost always wipes out any impressiveness that the run gains at face value. P.S. FCEU can save cheats? Edit: And you only need one thread, not three.

Does the Chemical Plant 1 shorcut that FractalFusion posted require the second controller, or can that be done indirectly?
To clarify, it is possible to do it indirectly, but it is faster with the second controller. (At the time, I didn't think Quietust was going to use the second controller to control Tails).

I think I saw somewhere that Bisqwit doesn't want anyone to register multiple accounts. If you like, you can ask Bisqwit to change your username, like I did before. :) Edit:

Is the time the text takes for appearing constant or could shorter names reduce text times? Especially pokemon names, which would be printed a few thousand times over the course of a run would save a few frames that way, provided the text entry dialog doesn't eat too much time.
I think we debated over this before. Some say yes, some say no. I think that shortening a name could save one or two minutes. Mew definitely has an advantage over Squirtle in terms of name length.

Good job, Acmlm. Voting yes. If it is possible, could you describe how the game's random generator works and how your program works?

I think vsmk3 said to use Snes9x improvement7 (the site's patched version).

It's a good run for a lesser game of the Mega Man series.
Too bad this game wasn't named Mega Man (number) and had no U.S. release at the time. Otherwise it would have been so popular.

Wait, save prompt? What do you mean? You mean the save prompt when you beat a stage?
When you beat a stage, all you do is select save game and the game asks which slot you want to save and then exit without saving. Then the CD's appear just like that.

I had a look. Initially I played up to Cold Man from the beginning and the CD's were right there the first time. What I actually discovered was that those CD's don't appear until you enter the save prompt. No clue why, but merely entering the save menu (even without saving) will trigger the appearance of the CD's. I never intended to enter the save prompt in the first place. It's really easy to go in there when you don't want it to. Good thing. :)

I checked and indeed Rockman can jump after using a Lightning Bolt. There's no doubt now that Rockman can get all the CD's.
Gigafrost wrote:
I also noticed while setting it up that some CDs weren't there. I think they might only appear when you revisit the stage.
Of course you didn't notice the CD's buried in the ground. Rockman never got CD Finder. He didn't even get Rush Search. Note that since Rockman doesn't get Rush Search until after defeating the third boss, at least 4 revisits are required (Intro stage + 3 others).

You don't need 100 .smv's. Only those CD's that were designed for only Forte to get need .smv's (and there aren't a lot).

I haven't really thought about a full CD collection run. It's a very interesting idea, though. Hmmm...
I was thinking that it might be possible for Rockman to get all the CD's. A combination of Ice Wall and Lightning Bolt may reach CD's that only Forte is supposed to get, but I have yet to verify it.

Good job, hero. I wonder how you managed to luck-manipulate better for the couple cards. Yes vote.

I agree that the past question ("Should this movie be published?") was better. I think the reason Bisqwit changed the question was because of the issue of voting No for own movie. The issue wasn't worth bringing up anyway. Still, I don't think the wording really matters to people who were here in the past.

I finally had a look at Brown Bomber's speedrun and I was quite impressed at how the game was handled. There were some things in the speedrun that I failed to do in my run, such as buying and using Escape Rope. The battle with Red was completely unexpected, too. There are a couple things I would like to mention, though. First, some of the trainer battles (not the ones that look around randomly) are avoidable. Also, Totodile seems to have a bit of a problem with the second gym. One reason I used Geodude was to knock out the second gym easily, although Geodude lacks speed and special and it is problematic later on.

The ROMs were dumped from N64 carts using ROM dumpers. You need a ROM dumper to dump ROMs from your N64 carts. Otherwise, you'll have to find and download the ROMs.

The strategy was exactly the one which I envisioned. :) Although I still try to think up other strategies.

How does that save time?
It doesn't, really. It's just a convenience for long submissions. I do that all the time. Surprisingly, my submission made Movie Statistics. Is it possible to improve Monopoly? I'm thinking about an alternate strategy.
