I thought I had gotten the file with the improved jumping. How much did you improve it by?

Voting NO because the final boss fight is clearly unoptimized and contains several blatantly missed shots that waste 34 frames! The second suggested screenshot even showcases them! Even a toddler could see those 2 lightning bolts are higher than the boss's head! Anyway, jokes aside, that was the best I could do. To summarize my improvements, which I spent all evening doing: * Corrected the missed shots and saved 26 frames * Noticed my new movie had tried to fire a bubble when the sprite limit was maxed out, corrected that mistake by waiting 5 frames for the first lightning bolt to disappear, saved 7 more frames * Wondered if there was a way to pop the first bubble faster to avoid waiting all 5 frames, was able to "hex edit" in 1 more frame of improvement, but more wouldn't work * Theoretical 4 more frames of improvement are possible on this boss, using this strategy, but likely not practically possible. * I'm worn out on this game. Good riddance. Now publish this darn thing and be done with it. :P Last edit: Youtubed the new boss fight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdeLo0TqDvs

I think it would be silly to add every published TAS, when they've probably already been uploaded by WebNations or adelikat's OfficialTASVideos account. Instead, I propose that only members of this group should be allowed to add their own published runs. This'll cut down on needless redundancy and keep the focus on the members of the group, and help to prevent the other videos (TAS-related videos such as playarounds, WIPs, and demonstrations) from being lost in a sea of stuff that we've all already seen.

From the top of my had, there's this forum, vgmusic.com (a long time ago when people still went there), TVTropes itself, OCRemix. Quite a few places.

I'd like to nominate Widget for heavy glitch abuse. (It also could use a stream that plays faster than 25 fps so the glitches could be made out better, but I don't know how to help with that)

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=207752#207752 You can find the latest version of my run from that post. I'll check your WIP. Edit: Well, I watched it. And I'd have to say it's a good test run, but only that. It's extremely unoptimized and missing a lot of tricks and improvements. For some specifics, check out my movie. Also, I see that you're attempting a no-damage run, which I give a huge thumbs-down to, and so will probably all of the voters. There's no reason to not take damage to save time, which can be done all over the place. Though, if this is your first attempt at a TAS, I'm very impressed. But you've still got a little work to do if you want to get this published. If you are not too discouraged at the prospect of starting all over, I might be interested in working with you; you certainly do have patience. Edit 2: Watching it again, I see something interesting that I missed on my run: You got up to the cage in Bongo Hills 1. I probably should have done that. Also, I have to wonder why you aren't getting any cages, especially in Twilight Gulch 1 where it is possible to get all 6 cages on the first runthrough, making it a waste of time to come back to the level later even with the running power.

This has nothing to do with a TAS, but just a random question about this game that I cannot seem to find the answer to. Why is it that sometimes the hidden 1-up blocks fail to appear?

Well, there is this: http://www.rphaven.org/gs/cog1/e-main.htm It's a joint effort between me and GeminiSaint (I actually made the game first, then he rebuilt it from the ground up into his own version) It's a fairly standard RPG with a huge world to explore and a lot of homages to the NES era. Battle system needs a little work, though. Other than that, we're pretty proud of it.

Not that I ever knew you personally or anything, but I've had it up to here with that one user on various forums who is always overly self-conscious and insecure about their reputation, acting as though if one or two people don't like them then everybody hates them and they don't belong. These types of people are kinda missing the point of a forum and community. Oddly enough, it's also these people who like to request name changes a lot and also make goodbye posts despite usually just coming back anyway. If you want to leave, leave. No reason to have your account deleted. You don't need a psychological divorce to leave. Grow up.

My Dr. Mario run should have the "single level" tag, I think.

Still haven't seen the movie, but I'm surprised the poll has 3 no votes and the replies in the thread are all positive except for one. Maybe we should write a script that only allows votes if you post? If the purpose of the voting is to help the judges, it's not much help if all the negative votes are anonymous. People could still vote anonymously after the movie has been published, if they just wish to affect the movie's score without stating their opinion.

I caught a movie of an enemy dying for no reason. Analyze away! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/646180794/smb2_die.fm2 Merry Christmas, I guess...?

Okay, I'm absolutely sure that there's something going on with invisible/dead actors in this game. I just had another strange thing happen, also on the Wii VC. On 5-2, at the end of the first room where there's a vine to climb up, I threw an unripe veggie to kill a bunch of the enemies, leaving only the shyguy alive and walking away. Then I jumped onto the vine and started climbing up, but on the way up, the shyguy died for no reason. There's got to be something going on here... the veggie wrapped around the screen and hit the shyguy, or something.

FCEUX has that, the TAS editor. It's incomplete, though.

I think that Dark Rayman died because I got so far ahead of him that he fell into a pit, so his sprite wrapped around to the top of the screen.

I can see a problem with this: say you recorded Player 1's optimized path, and now you want to record Player 2. So you rewind and switch to "Append" mode, and start to play with Player 2. But then you make a mistake playing as Player 2, so you have to re-record. But since you're playing in "Append" mode, your mistake persists - so when you try Player 2's actions again, you'll find that all the buttons you pressed stay pressed, and only the new buttons you pressed will be added to the movie. So, what now? You can't delete your input without deleting your perfect Player 1 actions. So you have to rewind and switch to "Invert" mode systematically "un-play" your mistake with Player 2, then rewind again and start from scratch? That seems very burdensome, especially considering the sheer number of times one re-records in a video. Here's how I think it should work: create a Read Only / Edit toggle for each individual player. They would behave exactly as the toggle does for movies now, but only applies to that one particular player. So you can record Player 1, then set Player 1 to read-only while you record Player 2. Since you're only going to be recording one player at a time anyway, which is the whole point of multi-track recording, this seems the most intuitive and efficient solution. You might even add an input option to apply P1's input to any player's gamepad which is set to Edit, making it possible to take turns recording wtih a single gamepad. While I think this is the best solution for recording multiplayer movies, it doesn't address the issue of simply adding or subtracting input from an already-playing movie. So, perhaps the Insert and Scrub modes could also be implemented as well. They wouldn't be used for multi-track recording, but rather they'd be useful for precision editing such as correcting small mistakes and adjusting luck manipulation.

Awesome script, though. This is exactly what I wanted. Though it could use some more features....

Almost forgot to reply to this thread. With that VBA, I was able to revive the movie and finally submit it after four years. So thanks, klmz!

I made a TAS a long while ago, saving a state every level. I have since lost the movie file. If movies are stored within these SGM files (I'm assuming that's how bulletproof recording works), is it possible to re-create my movie? Is there some utility that I can use to do this, or is it possible to trick VBA into not giving me the "This state is not from this movie" error?

I think the stuttering can also happen if you have auto-saves enabled, since it's saving a savestate file every few frames.

I know that the old Pidget has to be completely off the screen in order for the new one to spawn. Regarding the snifit glitch, it happened while playing on the Wii VC a while back. I was playing through the game normally as Mario, but when I entered Mouser's room (Pretty sure it was 1-3, but might have been 3-3), when I fell from the top of the screen into the boss room, I was holding a gray snifit for absolutely no reason. I threw it at Mouser.
