We're almost done now. We already have a finished .dsm but we're still testing if some frames could still be saved. When we finish doing that we'll probably submit it.
Great! I'm looking forward to the submission.

Thank you for clarifying that. This post makes sense to me.

I don't think anyone will do a "non-glitched" run of this game, considering how little the game's already been TASed. I would find a non-glitched run entertaining too, but I'm really looking forward to the glitched "all tracks" run.

Hmm...the Syobon Action/Cat Mario castle music sounds like this game's level music. I guess Syobon Action got the castle music from this game? I liked this run; yes vote. Though, I don't know if this version should obsolete the NES version's run. What's the precedent on obsoleting an NES run with the original Arcade version of the game? If an arcade run was made of Donkey Kong and was somehow faster, would it obsolete the NES run?

5-1 Same as in 4-2, constantly jumping with the slay saves a lot of time.
"Slay" should be "sleigh". Great job completing the run! 02 battle was really fast! Big YES vote!

I was playing Skitchin' on the Sega Genesis and I used a nitro. I guess I remembered this when I registered on TASvids the next day. :P
I was wondering about that. Well, I'm glad this thread exists. It's quite interesting to read all of the stories behind everyone's nicknames.

I think this whole thread is very unprofessional because here you make fun of people's videos
Most of the videos posted here are just to show others some good YouTube videos, not to make fun of them. For instance, I posted a link to a YouTube video trailer for a new SM64 hack, and Mukki posted a YouTube video about the making of Ocarina of Time. Neither of us made fun of the videos we posted; on the contrary, we basically advertised them to the community. Besides, it's in the Off topic forum. It doesn't actually need to be professional like the rest of the site.

Both links lead to the any% WIP. The any% looks amazing though. I'm excited for its eventual completion. EDIT: OK, thanks for fixing it.

Now that I think about it, "corrupts memory" probably isn't very accurate. I also agree with darkszero and Saethori.

PMd you a 16 frame improvement. Don't ever, ever, ever land as a plane, always cancel out with B.
OK, thank you rog! I wasn't sure which was faster, but on all of my attempts, my goal was just to make it to the platform as early as possible, and I was judging the time I took to fly to the platform by the frame and position I landed. I will remember to press B before landing. EDIT: Thank you for linking to that Wikipedia article, Bobo the King. I don't believe there is any friction when flying the Paper Plane, so the optimal path may very well be a reverse cycloid. Gravity is not realistic in this game though, and neither are the physics when flying upward, but I'll keep trying to find a faster path.

Don't know how far you are into your TAS. That might still get quite funny for you.
I don't see any possible defect of Dolphin that will stop me from finishing my TAS.
Slowking wrote:
Even though Paper Mario TTYD is a 3D game, it's clearly not as desynch prone as an action adventure.
I agree with you. But neither game should be so desync prone that a TAS would be impossible to make.

I'm also pretty sure that savestates aren't perfect yet. That has nothing to do with read only mode, btw.
I'm talking about read-only savestates. When you load a savestate in read-only mode in any Dolphin v3.0-235 and newer, it will start playing back your movie from that point, instead of loading and showing the "Movie End" text and then ending your movie, like the broken read-only mode before that revision.

A RPG and a free roaming 3D game, with different forms of movement, complicated enemy AI, etc. are really different cases.
PM:TTYD is a 3D RPG, which, like TWW I'm sure, also needs precise movements and needs to manipulate lag and enemies.
Slowking wrote:
I really doubt you can TAS 2 minutes in TWW without getting a desynch.
Have you tried TASing TWW on the latest Dolphin? It's probably less desync prone than you think.
Slowking wrote:
Combined with the length of this game and the time it takes to play back Gamecube movies, that is a dealbreaker.
And once again, read-only mode is fixed, so you can easily load a savestate from any point in your movie and start watching that part. Try it out! It's really helpful.

Which feature do you think is unstable? Frame advance works perfectly, there have been many savestate fixes so savestates work really well, and read-only mode is fixed so you don't have to play a 2+ hour movie from the beginning every time you want to check for desyncs.

Yeah people will totally start TASing a 6 hour game on an unstable emulator!
That's exactly what I'm doing with Paper Mario: TTYD. And Dolphin is much more stable than you think. It has essential features now too, like read-only mode, TAS input window, and solid savestates.

Sounds like you need some calculus of variations.
How easy would it be to make a calculus model for the paper airplane physics of a GameCube game? I'm not sure how to go about it. What do you suggest?

Wow, I never knew that item used to be called the Bag of Magic Food! It's funny, since one year later (Kirby's Adventure), the creators decided it looked more like a Tomato. Well, as for my nickname, I was trying to think of something to put in the username field of the TASVideos Register form, and I decided to think about it during the day. Eventually, I started playing Kirby's Adventure and gained the Ice ability. I decided "IceKirby" didn't sound that catchy, but "CoolKirby" rolled off the tongue. The Kirby series is also one of my two favorite Nintendo franchises (the other is Mario), and Kirby is cool, so there you go. Plus, when I gained the ability to use mood avatars, I could put a Wheelie Rider Kirby as my avatar (since he looks "cool").

Sorry to triple post, but I need some help. I finally got to the first Paper Plane panel and I'm trying to optimally fly to the platform below and walk up to the Thousand-Year Door room. Could someone please help me with the angle and speed of the Paper Plane? I hope to be able to learn from whatever help I get to do more complicated Plane flying later by myself. I would appreciate any help; just post below and I will PM you the movie file and some savestates.

I think the new "corrupts memory" category was a good idea. Shouldn't other movies be labeled with that too, like Ocarina of Time any% (RBA)?
