It's nice to see a TAS of this game! But how exactly both categories differs?
100% category is almost the same at 'any%' category, but the only differences is that Special Stages to collect the emeralds (Every Zone 2), A extra battle after the boss of Sliver Castle 3, and the ending changes a bit (If doesn't collect all of the emeralds, Robotnik escapes after defeating on Sliver Castle 3).

New WIP: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/39699703557590568 Encode: Link to video Green Hill completed and first emerald obtained! I can continue this Sonic 100% run, but before, I need some feedback, because that special stages can drops entertainment and costs much time to obtain a emerald and to beat this game than skipping all emeralds. Collecting all emeralds allows Sonic (or Knuckles) to fight Robotnik on a extra battle, and changes the ending a bit.

Oh lol I was in the middle of TASing this as well due to the same pause button realization. Good job, yes vote from me.
What a coincidence! Because of very difficult RNG, I don't know it there's a good RNG to manipulate a very close exit on the very first floor.

Well, I worked this run on a single file! Yesterday, I started and finished this run with 4400 rerecord approximately. But I took a chance to improve more floors, resulting on a lot of painful manipulation, resulting on a more 7800 rerecord approximately, and saving more 145 frames totally (I copied my run and reimproved inside of the same run).
I believed to be more long for optimised this run...I'm curious, are you an extra terrestrial ?! LoL Very motivated and great TASer, I'm sure! I repeat amazing run.
Some of my runs (that I never posted a WIP on this site), I really did on a single file. I'm a good TASer heheheh Also, both Synahel's published runs is a short record time, and the rerecord count is much more lower than my rerecord count. So, this rerecord is lower, but very high for this game.

Wow, I'm impressed! I have tried this game 3 or 4 month earlier and honestly, I say you big congratulation because manipulate RNG for find the door directly and past to the next stage, is hard. I don't have did a lot of tries because i'm not familiar of this game and don't understood the goal! haha, I believed than the goal was search and destroy the boss in a spécific room... Nothing watched for uninformed viewers...But if you know the difficulty then Big yes vote is necéssary! You have very low re-record, have you worked on multiple files? Or it's normal due to low time?

For reference: [2149] SMS Rocky by Olivebates in 05:19.43 Nice improvements, but, there's a BIG flaw: You didn't ended input AFTER defeats the last opponent (I totally disliked this). So, isn't necessary to continue the movie during and after the credits. EDIT: More appropriate ending input (Not necessary to put me as a co-author): http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/39638765830590597 (Removed 4826 frames of blank input) Glad to see another Dega run improved, but this game isn't much entertaining for me. Sorry, Meh vote. Another thing: This movie ONLY syncs on the versions prior of BizHawk 1.11.9.

I finally watched that path on chinese video yesterday and I noted that strategy is the same of published run. Also, my run is almost done.

I really like your strategy for the Chapter 6 boss, but I was wonder, can't you get another hit in on the first cycle of the fight? It seems like the chinese TAS has been removed or something, and that's really sad. But are you sure you won't be able to finish the TAS? You're only 5-6 screens away from the end of chapter 7, and the final bosses shouldn't be difficult to figure out.
I tried this, but didn't work, for some reason. Well, I can try to improve that path. And also, that WIP is more than 2500 frames ahead at published run. EDIT: Run is done. I'll submit after some days. 2776 frames ahead.

Last WIP: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/39469564506070150 After a hell of time using homing missles, I finally discovered a new strategy/new way to defeat the Chapter 6 Boss without losing time and with firewheel! WIP stops on a failed attempt on Chapter 7. F*** larger hitbox. That chinese run didn't work with me. Without this video, I can't see that attempt (because I can't remember, sadly) and I can't continue this run.

Finally included ''Infinite Nippo'' on this TAS: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/39323556685231151 I sacrified 12 frames on Chapter 2 to save 115 nippo, while on Chapter 3, I sacrified only 2 frames, saving 50 nippo. During this redo, I improved 2 frames on Chapter 2, 2 frames on Chapter 3, and 15 frames on Chapter 4 (cancelling a walljump). During the third part of Chapter 4 and the first part of Chapter 5, I saved more frames using homing fireballs instead of spread shuriken. But, I lost 1-2 frames on Chapter 4 Boss (This boss is a hell to optimize) and first part of Chapter 5 because optimizing that subweapon isn't easy to hit more than 1 enemy without losing frames. Well, with infinite nippo, I saved 48 frames.

I tried to save more frames on Boss and failed. So, that boss on the WIP is really 100% optimized. And I'll try to test the ''Infinite Nippo'', but, requires a lot of redo to test this, starting from the middle of Chapter 2 until the end of Chapter 5. Because of this, the progress is on hold during some (or more) days.

How do you get this glitch? If it's not from a debug mode, I think it would most likely be fine.
If you get 999 of nippo, and if you use any special weapon, instead of spend nippo, it continues 999. I consider this glitch like a ''underflow'', but, it's actually a bug on this game.

Another WIP: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/39216003962364199 Chapter 5 finished. 1086 frames faster, but boss is almost 100% optimized. Well, I noted that's possible to save more frames on Chapter 4 and 5 using homing fireballs instead of spread shuriken. But requires ''Infinite Nippo Glitch''. I don't know if this glitch would be allowed on a TAS or not (this glitch sounds like a infinite cheat).

I didn't expect that was possible to speed up load times. Liked this, despite that sounds a bit controversial.

I'm curious to see what you're planning for the Chapter 6 boss, as it's horribly slow without the homing fireballs and infinite ninpo, since you can hit him 4 times every cycle with it.
You could get the homing fireballs on the first part of Chapter 6, but the main problem is how to dodge enemies without firewheel and without losing much time (since the firewheel on Chapter 7 is located on a later part before the boss). But definitely I'll test this. Starting from Chapter 6 until at the some point of Chapter 7.

WIP 3: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/39166886064553248 The rest of Stage 4 is done. The boss is much more difficult to optimize than the stage. I saved frames, but lost some frames because of one of that patterns. 854 frames ahead. No ''Infinite Nippo (Ammo)'' on this WIP.

Finally this run is done! I watched this run and great, great work on this run, Tompa and Alyosha! This day is a milestone on TASVideos, because for the first time of the history of this site, a decade project is submitted! (Yes, a run that started on 2007 and ended on 2017). Several stages is very impressive, such as Forest Frenzy, Croctopus Chase, and Platform Perils. Yes vote and very impressive rerecord count.

I found a Youtube video that includes a timesaver near the end of Scene 8: Link to video As soon as you grab the gem take damage quickly on the spikes and lose your companion Pec. The damage and gem animation will cancel out each other resulting Ardy being able to move freely for a few seconds walking through the gate. I tested that glitch and saves approximately 210 frames. It only works on Japanese version. It's possible to perform that glitch on that ''Catry'' path of Scene, since has an acid drop near the gem. During of my research, I found some little improvements, including a soft reset during a power-on, skipping directly to ''Titus Presents'' (ASCII Presents on JP version) screen. EDIT: I also discovered a ''double-hit'' strategy on Scene 11 Boss! Another big improvement!
