There's a download link for the .fm2 movie file. I used google translator on that page to see it!

I'm surprised that both videos exists for years, and how nobody pointed out until now.

After a year, it's great to see this run finally done. Picking easy difficulty was a good idea (it decreases length for those bosses - mainly the octopus boss). Well planned strategies and management with 2 players! Yes vote. Well...I forgot to mention days before, but I noticed (twice) one thing: on 8:59 and 15:23 (from your encode), wouldn't better gaining some speed in the downslopes before switching to knight suit?

Pretty impressive improvement! I never expected that this game could be improved for over 5 seconds. Yes vote.

Haven't considered that this game could be improved so much. The new bank error glitch is so impressive that looks like another rare stuff to see in a TAS!

This isn't only this game that has undetectable lags. A bunch of other SMS games have it. Considering how optimizing certain lags are painful, this run still looks good.

Very impressive improvements! While the original Arcade version lags heavily, this Genesis port doesn't occur (still has, but less slower). So, despite the short duration, this is more entertaining to watch.

Congratulations to Sniq for taking the TAS of 2018 award with [3653] SNES Super Metroid by Sniq in 35:58.31!
Like I explained before, this run is definitely the best 2018 run ever! So, this was obvious for me that would be the winner.

I remember that previous ACE control used on Acmlm's submission (back from 2016), and now, it's another game defeated. And even more broken than before. Yes vote.

Seeing we are reaching the end of this decade it would be interesting to see a "TAS of the decade award" every TAS of the year since 2010-2020 place them in a poll and vote for the best of the best of this decade.
Seconded.

Fun fact: Normally a TASer works with more than one system, but this time, a winner is a TASer that worked with only one system (although this is the second time - first was from 2012).

This poll was interesting for me: First, Super Mario Bros. 3, much later, Super Mario Bros (current run) reached with a same amount of votes, then surpassed, vice-versa a few times...until reaching a final result. I enjoyed seeing the stuff of current Super Mario Bros TAS and I considered that would be a winner, but when Super Mario Bros. 3 appeared, I changed to this game, because hey, was truly amazing how I watched it, especially (again) the route change of 8-Fortress! Congratulations to the winners!

I recommend Super Metroid. This run is definitely the best 2018 run ever! This run was mind blowing when I watched for the first time. My reactions were strong when I watched those new techniques, like superjumps used on Lower Norfair (after beating Ridley), or using X-Plasma with 2 bosses, or even skipping a elevator! EDIT: I also voted Super Mario Sunshine. This was also another impressive run, starting with a certain TAS of this game I've watched back from 2014. This game isn't a lot broken like SM64, but was still superhuman (some levels aren't easy to beat on real-time).

When Mega Man Zero 2 appeared back at the start of 2018, I was expecting that this game will won this trophy, since the run impressed me so much (more technical)! And when Dragon Ball finally appeared (after a year of hard work), the result was really, really more impressive. A game that was initially badly optimized and unobsoleted for 13 years, and the efforts of WarHippy (and others) put this game to be a stronger candidate for this category, and I'm glad to see that this game won too! I'm proud of both runs. Congrats guys!

Sorry to bump up such an old thread, but I have a question that maybe an experienced TASer can answer. I was shooting Sir Richard Rose one day, like 7:20 in this video, but with Cormano, and somehow I managed to kill him in about two seconds. Not just destroy the balcony that's protecting him, I managed to completely bypass his second form. The problem being of course, I have no idea how I did this, and I can't recreate this. P.S. If you're wondering why I'm asking this question, yes, I'm going to do a speedrun of this game fairly soon.
Well, I think it's clear what caused you to kill Richard Rose in very little time instead of destroying the balcony as usual : there's surely some pixel-precision place on the balcony, surely very near of Richard Rose but not "at him", from where if you shoot diagonally down-right, your bullets will be shooting at him instead of at the balcony. And since you're shooting a point-blank range and with many bullets, you kill the boss as fast as gamely possible (like if there's a limit of one bullet damage for every other frame, and this boss has 50 HP, it would take 100 frames which comes down to 2 little seconds, just like the time you said you took to kill him).
Do you tested it, jmosx36?

Never heard of this game until see this submission. This is a very entertaining run, with a plenty use of dashing, not only to gain incredible speeds but for also avoid (and even) dangerous traps! I know that's too early for speak about next awards event (2019), but I'm also voting Yes for 1st TAS edition, PC, and Speedy TAS!
