This game looks much more solid than before, but... I noticed that you finished this game with 0 lives for player 1, and 1 lives for player 2. Couldn't possible an extra death to avoid enemies somewhere? Also, the 3-1 bug was used for a short amount of time. Maintaining it for more time could ruin something later?

@grassini Thanks! And the WIPs will reach slower here. More progress: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/55700863165553522 3-2 and 3-4 were really difficult. Although 3-4 tooks much more time to reach a very satisfied result, It's not final version for me - but TASing a single stage for a long time is stressful. With some pausing (start button), it's possible to delay that attack from those "guards" on 3-4, avoiding some lags. Actually I did the same with an enemy at the end of 2-1, but avoiding even more lag. 3-3 boss sucks when playing on real time: He has 16 HP, but when he reaches 0 HP, It's still possible to hit before he "dies", but the HP "resets" to 255 - which means that you still must attack until reaches 0 again, or lose a life to restart the battle. Interessingly, this boss has an own HP address. For 3-5, I managed to hit both bosses as soon as "invicibility stunning" ends, with some help of running, which increases the Y speed a bit more.

I watched the current record and the glitch is present.

You can do it with the first guard of level 2 (since you already have the sword), by pressing "B" (block) when he attacks, then press "select" - you must exit on that exact moment.

a quick comment about Gate Thief Route vs. No Gate Skip Route: These categories seem unhelpful here. With the amazing short length of these routes, thanks to Warp 4 and Warp 16, the only real difference is saving a couple of minutes on levels 18 & 19. Frankly, it's an unimpressive difference. I lobbied to create the different categories from the perspective of the huge potential difference between the routes using Warp 8. There was a nice variety of game play to be displayed across these many levels. I hope to further illustrate these differences by eventually looking for a Gate Thief Vs. No Gate Skip comparison in a "beat every level" situation, to truly show the full range of abilities, and the game itself. Challenger, I hope if you aren't too tired of this game after you make a Definitive 4+16 Gate Thief TAS, you might consider using my previous Gate Thief videos to put together a "beat every level" Gate Thief exposition. (The work is mostly done! lol.)
For a new TAS, the "gate glitch" will be definitely used. Those warps are worth too. No, I don't have intentions to make another TAS which beats all levels with Gate Thief because getting that glitch through holes feels arbitrary. But I could try to improve the published run someday, since at the time, I haven't tested well some levels, since most of the run was based on a nicovideo run (33:13). EDIT: The warp to level 18 checkpoint didn't help so much?

I tested it 3 days ago, and also a faster route: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/55289078876162679 Both movies I created today. You can still get a "fat gate thief" with a slightly different way, but not exactly that - it fails to warp - so, this different corruption is better for "no gate skip" strategy. EDIT: I forgot to mention that after warping, that clock "bug" remains, but I tested the rest of the game without restarting, and level 20 plays normally.

Update. Just got no clock bug on the Fat Gate Thief route again. If I can nail down the final details, the route should definitely be below 9:30, because without the lag, 16 goes fast, and no restart on level 17. Almost there!
Like that? http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/55284868098526612

Nice work! Seems enough to make a new TAS, but I'll still wait for more warp research.

Here's a level 4 warp: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/55128977021688239 The route is necessary and you must need to fall like that (nearly touching a wall), and some slighty different position can affect the minutes remaining (with or without message appearing too). I managed one of them which on level 5, you can warp to level 16 and level 16 checkpoint with 3 and 4 minutes left, respectively. About those new warps... great find! I wondered about a possible warp to level 18 checkpoint, and now you are saying that managed it? I'll look forward for it!

Akuma, on level 1, it's possible to warp to level 4 on hole #4 of that map (located on page 5), but results on a few minutes left for this game. Do you know any other point where a warp to level 4 could be possible without losing much minutes? Because warping to level 16 decreases the timer, and with few minutes left...time up!

I voted Yes weeks before. Looks really optimized, since the gameplay isn't good and easy for a TAS.

Waited for this run since after watching how amazing was that any% run, and this 100% run - half of this was expected for me, while other parts were still surprising. Yes vote! Great rerecord count.

Well, my lastest progress was until 3-1, and forgot to post a link here. Now, after 2 years, some new progress - actually still finishes on 3-1: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/54913042614538702 First of all, since this run was initially worked prior to 2xx BizHawk versions, I resynched my lastest WIP to 2.2.1 version with the help of TAStudio, and also managed to find some new tricks, resulting on more more bruteforce with those stages - lag is still really annoying). Second, it's 511 frames faster and removed 286 lag frames - both overall.

Watched all of your progress during these months, and your research is so great that you did a much better work than me, and I like it! Also great to hear that you managed to warp even further than every other warp.

This was interesting, and I liked this concept. Yes vote. Also, this is really the only DKC game which the "whole" game can be beaten without Y, isn't?

I noticed that the published run could be improved a bit, but never expected to see the whole game improved, even more than 20 seconds! Great work guys and Yes vote!

This was totally surprising when I saw this submission. Initially, I thought that could be an April Fools joke... But I watched it. Man, how much time you improved for every round? This game is a nightmare for testing and optimization (seeing how the previous run is very solid optimization), so I never even considered that would be improvable so much! Yes vote.

Crazy improvements and great work! Yes vote. Also, the wall glitch could be possible on the first game?
