"maximum score" is more appropriate than "maximize scoring actions."
Agreed. The meaning is clear without convoluting the phrase.

This was a wise character choice. Team George/Murphy was last year's champion! :)

This is the TAS that this game deserves! It's unsettling to see the Drones easily overtake the player on the straightaways...even when the player vehicle has max upgrades. Yes vote!

It is good to see this game get some attention! Though it is a bit disappointing that it was not played on Ultimate Yars Difficulty A.

So there was people actually playing the game and even more, studying it... Is there some way I can contact them? Maybe Abystus via PM?
Abystus is a member of the Pugsy's Cheats forum. You may be able to contact him there, or at least post your questions publicly. Pugsy's Cheats forum: http://www.mamecheat.co.uk/forums Haunted Castle thread: http://www.mamecheat.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5719

Thank you for maintaining this for so long, fsvgm777. I appreciate your effort. If it has become burdensome, it is understandable that you would want to discontinue it.

About MAME-RR, it seemed to have a different tendency towards RNG. I guess this is the 'weird' one, as MAME0.64, WolfMAME0.106 and FBA-RR they all gave essentially the same results, but not MAME-RR.
I tested Haunted Castle on MAME-RR and FBA-RR to compare them. The only difference that I observed is that the transitions between stages are a few frames longer using FBA-RR. Whether using MAME-RR or FBA-RR, the length of the stages themselves is the same, and the gameplay is identical.

And do you know which players may have built the database for Haunted Castle?
Pugsy's MAME cheat database credits 168 contributors (including some members of TASVideos.org), and Pugsy himself does a lot of work, so it is hard to say. However, at least one cheat for Haunted Castle was contributed by Abystus, who is a prolific and knowledgeable contributor to the database. He likely knows as much as anyone who contributed to Haunted Castle.

Also, do you have an explanation for why the Game Genie doesn't seem to match with how Lua Script works?
I don't have any experience with using Game Genie in an emulator.

Excellent points. Firstly, thank you to all those commenting. As frustrating as this debate has been for many of you, it has exposed the perspectives of various members of the community.
I agree with you, DrD2k9. It is to this community's credit that such fervent debate can arise from a rather minor game.

Finally, I'd like to note that there is a strong undercurrent of condescension coming from our esteemed judges/admin throughout this thread.
If certain comments were a bit sharp, they were made later in the discussion at an escalating level of frustration, which is understandable.

fsvgm777, I submitted this TAS with the understanding that contradictory directional input is permitted by TASVideos. I recognize that community opinion is mixed regarding the use of this method.

I appreciate your candor, Spikestuff. Your perspective vis-à-vis alternate goals has merit, with regard to this game particularly. I considered several different goals before starting this TAS, including maximum World Records, as you have suggested. Based on what I had observed, there were proponents of each of these various goals, but no unanimous opinion. From my perspective, I had no experience with alternate goals, and I rather like the stricture of a purely speed-oriented TAS, cumbersome as it may occasionally be.

There are clearly more such bugs, since no one depended on absolute determinism among their normal users. Hopefully rewind will uncover more. Or at least help to understand what we need to save that we don't.
Games whose Save State status is "Unsupported" might be a good place to look. The PUNCHOUT.CPP driver fails to include the state of certain timers and counters when creating a save state. Super Punch-Out!! was particularly challenging for maintaining sync when loading from a save state.
