Comment from youtube: Thanks for the explanation! For those who don't know, you can also perform this glitch with Sypha by freezing an object right in front of stairs then climbing them. It may or may not save time in level 7 on her route...would be a very minor difference either way.

I think there's no need to explain, why it's good to keep literally ALL our scripts at one place. Our scripts aren't much less important than the very TAS movies! But the main site doesn't look like a proper place for that, because I don't want to spam it with tons of new pages and because the script one posts in Wiki isn't directly downloadable and main server-independent. SVN services overcome these limitations. I don't keep a big project on SourceForge or Google, but I think that while Google is a bit more intuitive, SF is more useful overall. Voice you experienced opinions please. I don't think this project shall be merged with "tastools" one, they are different concepts. I'm going to create a progect and give main rights to our experienced lua coders as well as to skilled players that have written at least one script. Some of them are too shy to post publicly the script they find raw, but hey, it works, it serves the goal you created it for, then why don't you let anyone else to use it for the same goal? This is important also because a script contains useful RAM addresses, and we don't have a habit to share all RAM addresses we own. I see the structure like that:
Game speciffic scripts < [platform folders] < [actual script files]
             /
Root folder |
             \
Other scripts < [actual script files]
I think it's important the put the contributer credit into each script properly. But to prevent crediting more or less than necessary, let's just write the nicknames of all people, that directly or indirectly contributed to it - just in alphabetic order. I also see that it would be cool to be able to search a script by author name, but don't know how to implement it best. We shall create some pages on Wiki to explain the usage of the hosting site itself, and the usage of subversion utilities (let's take just TortoiseSVN). So all of us may be able to have the updated versions of all scripts, or just of the ones they need. If anyone doesn't want to register at svn hosting site (for religious reasons for example), he can post the script here or at PasteBin. But our forum is known for breaking some Lua stuff from time to time. PS: This is not a joke, I really call for everybody that has any experience with EmuLua to think this idea over and accept it. And for site Staff of cource.

No, I'd need something particularly if I knew the game and wanted to make it myself, but I don't know it. I just love the oldschool 2D GTA (I played it long ago on DOS, but had no time to finish). And being TASed it looks OSOM! And yes, I can imagine HOW much must be taken in account when making it's run. But hey, that YT speedrun looks useful.

A free vrsion of this game is kept here. It features a gameplay interesting because of a layout switch option (eversion), that allows to collect all gems and open the last level in order to get the Best Ending. v1.5.2 provides the last level different from the later releases. It keeps randomly everting and you shall walk your way to the end considering that. The last level in v1.7.3 allows different routes, that depend on the evertion point you use. The rooms get looped if you skip the necessary evertion point.
Tricks: - If the evertion occurs when you are behind a platform, that was invisible in the previous layer, but becomes active now, you get warped up. - If you jump and bump the corner of the platform that is right above you, you fly as long as you hold Jump button. The similar thing seems to happen if you bump the lateral face of a platform and slide down along it. - You can knock out a gem from an outermost block by bumping it's corner and instantly resume flying onto it, no need to jump again (SMB style). - Some strange death-evertion trick, used by Acmlm. Explanation needed. - After you pick the last gem in level 7 you may press Escape button and skip the rest way to the flagpole, then start level 7 again and evert it to the last layer.
Acmlm wrote:
There's actually 3 possible goals for this game: (my vote would go to 100% too) - Any%, bad ending (the shortest, but doesn't even finish the game) - Any%, good ending (you can use another glitch to evert to 6-8 and 7-8, then access world 8 without all gems) - 100%, good ending (much more planning and running around yet still short) The evert glitch also makes world 8 much shorter and more interesting. I had test runs for both good endings (any% in 4:01, 100% in 9:27), and an unfinished improvement for 100% that would have been under 9 minutes ...

Now here are Acmlm's cool WIPs: Link to video Link to video Link to video EDIT: The Glitched branch is definetely publication worty, Bad Ending is not at all, 100% is pleasant because of all the strategic decisions needed to make that long 7th level fast.

natt seems to have pretty powerful computer. Both Camstudio (9, GZip) and MLC slow my emulator down ~twice or more. EDIT: CPU usage with MLC is insane, while it's not noticeable with CamStudio. You should add such info too I think.

I was positively shocked, even though the sound of Kotinaky is truely negative. Thanks for that stuff. I even decided to share it via torrent for Russians. Don't you mind?

I voted Yes. While this isn't the most exciting TAS due to boring sections with mines stuff, I was interested in seeing a TAS of this game and the rest of the run is pretty much okay and nice. Fighting so much enemies also promised long and boring first level, but now it looks okay as well. The game is rather good for LJN, it's somehow pleasant for me, who tried to play it in childhood, but couldn't pass level 2 (I didn't know what to do there). It's not highly entertaining, but isn't distracting either (and my eye and ear do notice when the game is distracting).

I will if it's accepted. But only HD for youtube. EDIT: About the run. Is there vertical and horizontal acceleration? You have weird placement on elevators, you walk further on them and then have to leave them later than it looks possible. Also sometimes you don't jump before leaving the upper platform, but just walk off it. Normally it causes to reach the lower floor later due to lack of vertical acceleration. Is it the case here? Isn't it faster to start walking before the electric wall disappears, do you gain any speed so?

I guess for those we may use their logos, while we can't use Windows logo. I suggest to use that for this year and think about future computers when they get the award, not now. EDIT: DOS games use mouse too.

Ah, no, there's no point except the flagpole to start the next level from. EDIT: Versions 1.52 and 1.72 (along with Steam version) have totally different 8th levels. In older version it keeps everting randomly by itself, in later versions you evert and the level itself is different. And it loops the rooms if not everted properly. EDIT 2:

You get warped up if you are at the point where some obstacle block appears after eversion. Reproduced each time you place yourself well and get good randomness.

Can anyone please encode these movies? The game crashed when I tried to play them back. May that be caused by another Hourglass version?

go back to the title and re-select level
Oh, this shall work in EVERY level!
I don't know what you mean by "letters", so I'm guessing that's a new feature in the paid version.
Yes, and watch the vid I posted.

Yeah, the quasi-randomness in level 8 means there are different ways to finish each room, and that affects the room you see next. You change the forthcoming room by using different eversion points. Also, collecting all gems and letters might be interesting to challenge, the last letter appears only on a recent layer on level 8. And to access level 8 you need all gems. EDIT: Hmmm, I think after you finish level 7 the game window closes or something like that. Is it correct?
