Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Lua script running in fceux, feeding it all the input the same CPU tick it asks for it. Regular movies wait for frame end, movies like this one feed input at insane rates each frame.

19:19:23 <arks> I miss the June avatar. 19:19:55 <arks> It did have the effect of making all of Memory´s posts seem to have a hidden malice, though

Ugh, I'm trying to watch KDL3. Currently 30 minutes in. And it's insanely boring. Standard Kirby gameplay and cuteness, not watered with any obviously crazy tricks or glitches. I only noticed something like a couple glitches so far. I don't know this game, but I've enjoyed some Kirby in the past. And it does feel like a glitchless walkthrough, simply using a few special game mechanics, otherwise just flying towards the.exit of the room. If it lasted for 10 minutes, it would at least not get so annoyingly old mid-way. But even then I'd still ask: what is so surprising about this movie that makes you want to rewatch it every once in a while, while still getting surprised over and over? Because I see nothing. And then, it lasts for a whole hour. Maybe it just happens to fit the taste of a lot of people, who simply love watching this game being played. But cuteness of games that are generally just not bad at all doesn't feel like we must explicitly promote their movies. They must be obviously special in something.

It was decided to use "save glitch" instead of "SRAM glitch" in movie branches. SRAM is not only specific to just a few consoles when we mean save data, it even has an entirely different meaning on other consoles. The corresponding movie class does it right by saying exactly "save data", so it includes everything: SaveRAM, save file, memory cards, etc. Note that this branch should only be used if the movie has a Major skip glitch relying on save corruption, and doesn't already have a game specific branch like "item glitch" or "arbitrary code execution".

It can't be submitted, because none of our NES amulators supports subframe input movies.

You should invest enough effort to make your movie hard to beat. There can't be a clear cut for your case.

I congratulate everyone on the fact that this day has finally come! Especially our good sir Asnivor who made it possible. Games like this are how you get a new TASable system rolling, will watch tomorrow.

mtvf1, don't be so negative.

When the whole run is redone from scratch (several times), we shouldn't just update the file. It should be a new submission, whenever the framewar ends.

It is acceptable as a single movie that consecutively unlocks the hidden stuff and completes it. Even if the hidden modes didn't have an ending, completing them can be defined without problems. You can also make 3 movies, one per campaign. Another question is how entertaining it will be. If the game mode requires starting from a save file, the movie playing that mode should be entertaining enough for Moons. If "all campaigns" isn't recognized by the game in any way, nor mentioned in the manual as some sort of full completion, such a movie would also need to be entertaining enough for Moons. The Vault tier, which accepts boring movies, doesn't allow arbitrarily defined goals or starting from a save.

There's a valid option to switch this entire "save corruption" movie class, where it causes a major skip glitch (which in turn doesn't have a game specific name), from "SRAM glitch" to "save glitch". The movie class was future proof in its name. The branch name apparently wasn't.

So a couple old threads were merged, and to bump it properly, encouraging people to brainstorm and/or test TAS features of WinUAE for real, here are 2 quotes from Tub that are very important if we want to get to Amiga TASing some day:
Tub in 2007 wrote:
there are two problems: writeable disks, and copy protection. First, you'll never really know if your copy (or original disk) is unmodified. Second, copy protected games can only be played using .ipf-images, which cannot be read in a deterministic way. Either that, or the copy protection needs to be removed, and hacked images are not allowed on this site. So even if the emulator is reliable enough for synced rerecording someday, we'll miss out on most of the best games. :(
Tub in 2014 wrote:
The problem with the Amiga is a different one. UAE already supports savestates, and some of the runs on the (now inactive) recordedamigagames.org were using some kind of tool assistance. But most amiga games have some kind of copy protection. Usually invalid sectors on the disks that return different data each time they're read. So, game dumps come in two flavors: * .adf images. They just store the data of reading each sector once, and will thus fail to boot copy protected games. Most games distributed by .adf are cracked, i.e. have the copy protection removed. Tasvideos.org does not accept run on modified games. * .ipf images. This stores the results of reading the disk several times, but it's a proprietary, closed source format made by the Software preservation society. As far as I know, it is not deterministic and cannot be used in a rerecording emulator. Not to mention that we couldn't claim that everyone dumped the original disks themselves: the tool to dump disks in this format isn't public. Thus, while it should be possible to add rerecording to UAE, the list of games we could actually TAS would be minimal.
Is there anyone inventive who knows how to solve this? Writes to disks can probably be trapped in a sensible way, but what to do about copy protection?

To clarify, we have to use something different from "SRAM glitch" here, because for PSX, SRAM is a thing unrelated to save files, which are instead kept on flash memory cards, and that's what this run uses.

Dedupped cscd at level 9 (guess how I got it!) for [3019] SNES Super Mario World "warps" by BrunoVisnadi, Amaraticando in 09:57.10 is 125 MB (132,049,263 bytes). But I only stopped the video at 11:21, so a little bit of overhead is there. Still pretty obviously worse than x264.

Camstudio Lossless Codec doesn't seem to allow command line usage. But it has a VS solution available, so maybe it could be recompiled into an executional, or there could be a wrapper for it that could translate the calls. But still I don't think it'd be able to overcome the 2GB problems of VideoForWindows... Can you test FFV1 too?

Ah, I thought the size would be comparable to 444. Since it's an extra thing that is also optional, I agree that it should be done instead of any ExtraHQ encode for 2D footage.

Hi. So you were able to properly rerecord with libTAS? If so, please describe your experience. libTAS will be supported in the near future when everything is ready. Also, can you post the movie you have somewhere so we could try to replay it to see how it all works together? Before it's officially supported on the site, we need people to test it, so if you're already interested in this, your help will be appreciated.

Since Ilari doesn't visit the forum, you better ask him directly at freenode #lsnes (since I don't think there's a dedicated room for jpcrr).
